Overview

The Cargo Train is a moving heist in Jailbreak, added in the 2017 Winter Update along with the ATV, Volt, McLaren, Train Station 2, the Vault Safe, and weather. The train varies in length (10-20 cars) hauled by a pair of yellow diesel locomotives, which resembles the livery of Union Pacific. It travels around most of the map along the track and disappears into Train Tunnel 3 after passing Train Station 2. The cars the Cargo Train pulls changes after each train. For example, a Cargo Train may have a lot of hopper cars one time, and have hardly any the next. It is operated by a silhouette of maplestick, one of the designers for some of the early vehicle textures.

The Cargo Train spawns exactly every six minutes (half the time in VIP/Private servers) and takes a little under two minutes to travel throughout the map; players must hurry at the sound of the horn or engine to rob it. It first comes out of the tunnel near Train Station 1. Depending on how the train switch is configured, it will either stop briefly at Train Station 1, or instead make a slight right turn and follow the tracks leading to Police Station 2. The tracks will merge at the Tesla chargers near the Jewelry Store and right before Train Tunnel 2. It will follow along to the Criminal Base, turn left, pass near the Fire Station, cross the bridge, pass Train Station 2, and will despawn when it reaches Train Tunnel 3.

Robbing Procedure

The Cargo Train is one of the easiest heists currently in Jailbreak. It is important to note that you have approximately two minutes to rob the Cargo Train (3 minutes when diverted to Train Station 1 and became stationary there before continuing on) and you will teleport out if you don't escape in time. Here's the procedure:

Manage to get yourself on top of the Cargo Train. The best place to start robbing the Cargo Train is on the roof of the tunnel where the Cargo Train first comes out of; if you climb the nearby mountain, you can stand on top the tunnel and wait for the Cargo Train to come. Once it does, you can jump onto it as soon as the yellow locomotives exit the tunnel or when a red boxcar appears. Another option is to use a motorcycle or a car to match the speed of the Cargo Train to open the door to a red boxcar while it's moving and rob it that way. The best bridge to use to get on the train is the one near the main intersection in the City, next to the City Police Station.

  • Using an aerial vehicle is recommended, as you can fly over the Cargo Train and drop onto the red boxcar easily.
  • You can jump onto the yellow flatcar with a blue crate on top, and get onto the Cargo Train that way.
  • You can also use a jetpack to get on top, but be careful not to ragdoll off.

Find a red boxcar. Open the top door or the side door and enter the boxcar. This is usually fairly easy to perform, especially since the most recent updates. It takes 2 seconds to open the top trapdoor, 5 to breach the vault, and 3 seconds to open the escape door. There is a chance that a red boxcar will not spawn, though this is fairly uncommon.

Breach the vault and collect money. A player without any gamepasses can get up to Cash Icon.png$1,750 per robbery, and players can gain a total of Cash Icon.png$4,200 if they have the Bigger Duffel Bag and VIP gamepasses. The Bigger Duffel Bag gamepass gives up to Cash Icon.png$3,500. Players with just the VIP Gamepass will receive Cash Icon.png$2,100.

Before the Cargo Train reaches the end of the track, exit through the boxcar's side door and escape.

If you don't escape before you reach the Cargo Train's route, you will teleport to a Train Station 2, but you will still redeem your money. The ATV spawns here and can be used to escape the station before you are spotted by the police if you have already purchased it.

Tips and tricks for robbing the Cargo Train

  • The Cargo Train is one of the safest heists in Jailbreak, as Police usually don't camp this location, as it moves.
  • The Cargo Train gives 100 cash per second, making it same as in the Bank, but still, it is very slow when robbing the train with a Bigger Duffel Bag.
  • The Cargo Train used to be the main hub for farming money, as many experienced criminals prioritized the Cargo Train over most of the other robberies.
  • If you're willing to, buy the ATV. This isn't really required, since you can spawn the Camaro, Jeep, and Pickup Truck for free, but it's good to buy the ATV as a getaway. It only costs Cash Icon.png50,000, and, despite its slow top speed, it has great launch and acceleration, making it a good getaway vehicle.
  • Grab a Jetpack to fly out of the train carts. It only costs Cash Icon.png50,000 and despite its long refuel timer, it's a very handy tool.

Cash amounts

If you successfully rob the Cargo Train to the max amount of money, you should be able to earn up to:

Gamepasses After Fall 2020 update Before Fall 2020 update
Default Cash Icon.png$1,750 Cash Icon.png$1,500
VIP Gamepass Cash Icon.png$2,100 Cash Icon.png$1,800
Tier 2 Bigger Duffel Bag Cash Icon.png$2,334 N/A
VIP Gamepass and Tier 2 Bigger Duffel Bag Cash Icon.png$2,800 N/A
Tier 3 Bigger Duffel Bag Cash Icon.png$2,917 N/A
VIP Gamepass and Tier 3 Bigger Duffel Bag Cash Icon.png$3,500 N/A
Tier 4 Bigger Duffel Bag Cash Icon.png$3,500 Cash Icon.png$4,000
VIP Gamepass and Tier 4 Bigger Duffel Bag Cash Icon.png$4,200 Cash Icon.png$4,800

XP payout

Initially, the Cargo Train gave 200 XP per boxcar robbed. Seeing how players can rob the Cargo Train multiple times depending on the cars that spawn and the skill of the player, the developers figured out that the XP Payout for the Cargo Train could be abused. After around 24 hours, the developers of the game decided to bring the XP per boxcar down to 80, as a way to reel back in on the abuse. However, after the City/Weapons update, the XP payout for the Cargo Train was increased to 150 XP after players can only rob one red boxcar per Cargo Train.

Since the introduction of Season 1: New Beginnings, robberies do not give players XP, as Contracts are the only way to earn XP. One of the criminal contracts requires players to rob the Cargo Train and Passenger Train without dying.

Trivia

  • Before the Cargo Train Patch Update, the Cargo Train used to be the hardest robbery in the game. It would constantly glitch and fling players out of the Cargo Train and sometimes even out of the map.
    • This is most likely due to the developers going above and beyond the Roblox physics at that time.
    • Now however, all the glitches have been patched.
  • The Cargo Train's locomotives are closely based off of the Evolution Series Tier 4, 4400 Horsepower, AC traction (ET44AC) locomotive produced by General Electric Transportation. The locomotives' paint schemes are based on the paint scheme of the Union Pacific Railroad, one of the largest railroads in the United States.
  • Cargo trains in the United States have a pair of engines or one engine at the rear. The Jailbreak one doesn't, though.
    • Many freight trains in the United States have referred to the locomotives behind the main locomotive as Distributed Powered Units (DPUs).
  • When players rob the Cargo Train, they can get Cash Icon.png$900 in bounty. They receive Cash Icon.png$100 in bounty for breaching the vault and another Cash Icon.png$800 for escaping successfully with money. This is different in VIP Servers, where they will get a Cash Icon.png$10 in bounty for breaching the vault, and Cash Icon.png$80 for finishing the robbery.
    • When the Cargo Train first released, players could get around Cash Icon.png$4,000 in bounty from robbing the Cargo Train. This later changed in an unknown update.
  • asimo3089 added a function where the prompt to open the door or vault doesn't appear. When replying to a tweet, he says "This is related to the E prompt bug that's been around a while...definitely the most elusive bug we've ever had.". This may not apply to everyone, so someone else might have the prompt to open it and you can rob it with them. This is very similar to the breakout E prompt issue.
    • asimo3089 also added a function where there were no red carts on the Cargo Train. When replying to a tweet, he says "This isn't a bug. You can't rob all Cargo Trains".
  • There is a glitch where players can receive money on top of the boxcar or next to it, which is used in the team robbing method.
  • For unknown reasons, players cannot rob Cash Icon.png$100 from the Cargo Train. Most likely because of the glitch that they can receive money by standing on the sides of the vault.
  • Players can get killed by standing in front of the Cargo Train. However, you cannot be killed by crashing into the Cargo Train with a vehicle (but it is possible for the vehicles driving headfirst into the train to fling off the map). This was removed in the Cargo Train Patch Update.
  • No vehicle in the game can stop the Cargo Train from reaching its destination. If too many vehicles are in front of the Cargo Train, then the server will crash, kicking everybody out.
  • When the Cargo Train was first added, it only gave Cash Icon.png$500 per heist for players without the Bigger Duffel Bag Gamepass. This was changed to Cash Icon.png$1500 shortly afterwards due to player complaints.
  • In the Spoilers/Wings Customization Update, due to people taking advantage of the bounty amount the Cargo Train gives, you'll only receive a Cash Icon.png$900 bounty from the Cargo Train for both breaching the vault and robbing it successfully.
  • Parking a Helicopter in front of the tunnel adjacent to the City Criminal Base will glitch out the Cargo Train, causing the engines and the first train cars to fly straight up, but will reset and continue, glitching out the Helicopter as well and sometimes even pushing the Helicopter under the map. This was patched in the Cargo Train Patch Update.
  • During the Ready Player One Event, the first red boxcar contained a lockbox. Badimo did not remove the lockbox after the Ready Player One Event was over. Back then, since that was before the Cargo Train Patch Update, Cargo Trains were short and usually only had one red boxcar, meaning most Cargo Trains were impossible to rob as if there was only one red boxcar, there would only be a lockbox, and players couldn't collect. Many complained, so Badimo managed to remove the lockbox in the 1 Year Update.
  • When players breach the vault of the red boxcar and are standing close to it, they can be flung towards the back of the boxcar. This can be fixed by quickly running backwards once it blows, or breaching the vault while standing on top of the boxcar.
  • In the 2018 Fall Update, the blue cart was transformed into it carrying 4 "Pumpkin Spice" coffee cups with asimo3089 and badcc waving as a logo. It also changed the appearance of some carts, such as the coal cart now carried leaves, the oil tank turned orange, the flatcar lost its blue boxes and had blocks of ice, the oil car turned blue, and snow was on top of the red boxcar.
  • There was a Roblox glitch that allows you to easily exit a red boxcar. Simply hold the top of the window and your Roblox game will freeze, allowing the Cargo Train to pass by you. This glitch only worked on Windows computers, as you can not use this glitch on mobile, console, or Mac computers. This glitch has been patched as part of the Passenger Train Update.
  • As of the City/Guns update, the Cargo Train is now able to also stop at Train Station 1 but won't give any cash until it's moving again.
  • Sometimes, when trying to get on the Cargo Train near Train Tunnel 1, players might spawn back at Train Station 1.
  • If a player uses an aerial vehicle and fly it above the train, it will move along with the train even if the player isn't moving the aerial vehicle. Anything that is on or near the cargo train moves along with it. This is how you can jump from one car to the next easily on the Cargo Train.
  • Possibly as a part of the "cryptic puzzle" mini-event going on outside of Jailbreak, the Maplestick decal has weirdly been removed from the cargo train. It is unknown if it will return or not.
  • In the Roblox game, Rails Unlimited, the Cargo Train can be driven after purchasing the Breakout Express gamepass in the game. It was used with permission from Badimo.
  • After a certain update, the gold bars in the train were made solid and cannot be passed through, whereas before it wasn't solid and you can walk through it.
  • The train easter egg looks very similar to this train but it was removed.
  • There was a glitch where sometimes if you were inside the train, the train would finish its destination and you would not get teleported out. You would end up stuck in the black wall or on the other side of the tunnel. You would be stuck there unless you die. This was later patched.
  • The Cargo Train is sometimes referred to as a moving bank vault if you have the Bigger Duffel Bag gamepass. Coincidentally, to finish both robberies, you only need to exit it.
  • There is a glitch where the train can be found in the lake near the Bank. This is rare and almost never happens. The train cannot be robbed because of the terrain, as you cannot enter the vault or even open it.
    • This is likely because of the fact the Cargo Train is a moving robbery, so when it spawns, it has a chance to fail at loading the correct coordinates and spawns at the center of the map, which is the lake.
      • This has been seen with the Passenger Train as well.
      • This glitch usually happens when players have low internet.
  • There is a glitch where if a player is collecting money inside the train and there is something in the way of the train, the obstruction will clip through the train, knocking everyone collecting money in the train's red boxcar out of the vault and ending their robberies.
  • A glitch occurs when using a Jetpack in this robbery, as the player may glitch through the train cars. If the player glitches into the vault of a train car, then will be unable to open it from the inside. The player can just glitch out using the Jetpack.
  • The developers have commands that controls the speed, length, and direction (the ability to go reverse, fly, and no-clip) of the train.
    • This has been spotted on videos by various Jailbreak YouTubers.

Miscellaneous Trivia

  • This is the first moving heist to be added into Jailbreak, before the Passenger Train, Cargo Plane, Cargo Ship, and the Cash Truck.
  • It is the first cargo-related robbery to be added, followed by the Cargo Plane and Cargo Ship.
